ARTIST STATEMENT

Why CrazyWeirdBeautifulThings?
Because at the center of my art is people; it’s always people. I love drawing humans, because each one of us humans, no matter how normal we can appear, is unique and crazy and weird, and it’s amazing. I love to draw or paint something out of the ordinary, something different, something crazy. I love to portray the concepts or ideas that the human mind experiences or creates in a visual way through my art. Being human is a crazy, weird, beautiful thing and that is what  my artwork represents.

WHERE IT ALL STARTED

Ever since I can remember, I've always wanted to be an artist. Since the very beginning of my life, I've been drawing or painting or sketching or coloring. I've always loved to create. Back then I drew mostly horses or unicorns. I didn't start drawing people until a little later. This is a drawing I did when I was 10.

AND THEN...

This is a drawing I did when I was about 13. As I grew up I started moving away from horses and drawing people instead. At first I just drew cartoony drawings or line drawings, and they didn't have any deep meanings or concepts attached to them- at least on the surface.

AFTER THAT...

This is a digital piece I did when I was 16.

Then I began to create pieces with a deeper meaning in them, visually representing ideas, emotions, and concepts. One of my goals, one of the things I really wanted to do, was to make pieces that looked realistc, but had something in them that was not phyisically possible. I later realized that what I wanted was to make my pieces more surrealistic, but at that time they were still a little cartoony and not realistic. Sometimes I was frustrated because I didn't know how to make it look the way I wanted it to in my head.

AND LASTLY...

This is a digital piece I did when I was 19.

Through lots of practice, I've now learned more about light and shadow, proportions, and perspectives and am continually still striving to make my artwork even better. I can't wait to see how my artwork will improve in the years to come. Surrealism is like, the coolest thing ever, but I also do "normal" drawings or paintings of people, especially in my sketchbook, to practice and study. But even in those I find myself picking out the people with something unique or different about them- or just different from me. There's just something in me that is drawn to crazy, weird, beautiful things.
